P0133 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response Bank 1 Sensor 1

3

An Oxygen sensor must switch constantly between .27 and .62 volts. The engine computer waits until the engine has reached at least 145 degrees and the vehicle has driven at least 10MPH for 30 seconds before it starts looking at the switching rate. The computer looks for about 8 voltage changes per second (these are called CROSS COUNTS). If it sees less than that, it sets this code, telling you that you have a “lazy sensor.”

Oxygen sensors wear out between 80,000-100,000 miles. But they can also be damaged by coolant, silicone, and engine misfires. If you have this code, chances are your Oxygen sensor needs to be replaced.

Bank 1 denotes the #1 spark plug side of the engine. Sensor 1 refers to the sensor BEFORE the catalytic converter.

Hey Rick, I’ve had this code going in my car for at least 6 months now. I’ve replaced the oxygen sensor 2 times and had my local mechanic change it as well and the blasted light still came back on with the code PO133. Could some thing else be causing the code and how could I find that problem?

  2. Rick says:

Can’t help without year, make, model, and engine.

  3. Rick says:

If you provide the year, make, model, and engine, I can see how it’s wired and also check a few pattern failure databases.
