The newer GM cars use a cartridge style oil filter that must be changed from up above.   A cap fits over the cartridge and you need a special low profile socket to fit over the nut.

The socket (#14700) is made by Lisle Tools and sells for $6.95

Remove the cap and the cartridge should come out with it.   Discard the old filter.   Snap the new filter into the cap and lube the "O" ring with new engine oil.   WARNING:  Failure to lube the  O-ring can cause a leak which can lead to CATASTROPHIC engine failure!!!   Get the point?

Then screw the cap onto the engine, making sure the O-ring is still in place. Do NOT overtorque the cap or you can damage the O-ring.
