If you're replacing a thermostat and can't get the housing off without removing the A/C compressor, STOP! This tip will save you lots of time.

Disconnect the battery. Remove the alternator. Then remove the nut from the stud at the top of the thermostat housing. Then remove the stud. Remove the bottom nut and the entire housing will come off. You just saved yourself at least 1 hour.
